Kunal Kapoor On The Empire’s Comparison With Game Of Thrones: ‘Unnecessary And Tragic; It's A Different Story, It’s A Different World'
Kunal Kapoor plays Babur on the show, The Empire, currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar
The new period drama titled The Empire premiered on the OTT platform, Disney+ Hotstar on August 27. And since it has hit the digital space, the viewers are churning some crazy reviews. Mounted on a high scale, the web series stars Kunal Kapoor, Dino Morea, Drashti Dhami, Sahher Bambba, Rahul Dev, Shabana Azmi, Aditya Seal and more in pivotal roles. The show is being compared to one of the most popular shows, Game Of Thrones - in terms of the look and feel of the characters.
Actor Kunal Kapoor, who plays Babur on the show, opened up about this comparison during his conversation with Bollywood Bubble. The actor feels the comparison is unnecessary and tragic. “I think these are unnecessary comparisons. Comparisons will be made and it is tragic that it is Game Of Thrones because it is a fantastic show," he said.
Kapoor added The Empire is quite different from the others. “Whenever you do a period drama like that it will be compared to something. Some will say it is like Padmaavat, Bajirao or Game Of Thrones, but it is a different story, it’s a different world, different characters, different people,” he said. Kunal added, “If people are comparing the scale (to GOT) then great, it’s wonderful, but I don't think there is any other commonality between that show and this show.”
In fact, Dino Morea's look, who plays Shehbani Khan on the show, was also compared with Padmaavat's Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh. He, to this end, said, “If you compare me to someone who has done a fantastic job then chalo theek hai. I’m okay with it. Because Ranveer has done a fantastic job as Khilji. I have not been influenced by what he did as Khilji. I have tried to introduce my madness. So I am ok with the comparison as long as it is to the best.” ALSO READ: The Empire Review: The Magnum Opus, Starring Shabana Azmi, Kunal Kapoor, Drashti Dhami And Dino Morea, Strikes Blank
